Roderick Eyres dies At hospital
Roderick Eyres, well known Le Mars farmer, was taken to Floyd Valley hospital late Sunday afternoon by Luken-Johnson ambulance.
The sheriffs office reports it has not been determined if Mr. Eyres suffered a stroke and fell off a tractor he reportedly was driving, or if there had been an accident with the tractor.
Mr. Eyres died at 10:45 a.m. Monday at the hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending at Mauer's funeral home.
The ambulance was called to the Eyres farm in Union township about 7 p.m. after it was discovered Mr. Eyres had been run over by the tractor.
Mr. Eyres had operated a dairy farm. For many years he had served as superintendent of the dairy, show at the Plymouth county fair. He was 54.

Funeral rites Thursday for well known dairyman
Roderick Stewart Eyres, 54, Le Mars and lifelong Plymouth county resident, died Monday (July 27, 1970) morning at Floyd Valley hospital of injuries he received Sunday night in an accident at his farm located 10 miles southeast of Le Mars.
It was reported Mr. Eyres was feeding cattle when the auger on the tractor swung around and knocked him off. He was run over by the tractor and suffered extensive chest injuries.
Graveside Masonic services at Union township Presbyterian cemetery will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, followed by praise services at the Union township Presbyterian church.
James Darby will be in charge of the church services and burial. A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Mauer funeral home with Rev. James Ransom officiating.
Mr. Eyres, a well known Union township dairy farmer, was born Oct. 25, 1915, at Le Mars, a son of the late Thomas and Christina Watson Eyres. He married Doris L. Wells June 14, 1941, in Le Mars.
He attended Le Mars elementary school and graduated from Union township school. He attended Westmar college for three years and also attended National Business school, Sioux City.
He was an active member of the Masonic lodge, having held various offices. He also was active in the Commandry and Eastern Star.
Mr. Eyres held offices in the Farm Bureau on the livestock extension council. A longtime dairy farmer, he had a life time membership in the Holstein Friesian Assn. of America.
Mr. Eyres was a Plymouth county fair board member since 1957 and for the last eight years has served as treasurer. He served as vice president and was the fair's dairy division superintendent for over 25 years.
He was a member of the Union township Presbyterian church and had served as secretary and treasurer of the Sunday school. He also was an elder in the church.
The family has requested that a living memorial for Jesus Christ be established for the furtherance of the education of religious students.
Survivors are his wife, Doris of rural Le Mars; a son, James of rural Le Mars; two daughters, Mrs. Jeffry (Christie) Sales of Fort Dodge and Mary Ann of rural Le Mars; two brothers, Calvin of Le Mars and Dr. Thomas of Athens, Ga.; four sisters, Mrs. Edward (Agnes) Held of Buffalo, Minn., Mrs. Helen Wilson, Harriet A. Eyres and Ethel W. Eyres, all of Washington, D.C., and two grandchildren.
