Melvin Ray Kanago, 64, who resided at 627 2nd Avenue Southeast, Le Mars, passed away June 8, 1961 after a sickness of several years. He had been a patient at Sacred Heart hospital for several days and passed away there on Thursday morning.
Mr. Kanago was born April 8, 1897 near Adaville in Plymouth County and had been a lifelong Plymouth County resident. He had operated the Le Mars Tire hospital for 41 years.
His marriage to Ann Helen Kruse took place January 7, 1921 in Sioux City. He is the son of Mrs. Mary C. Kanago and the late Hugo M. Kanago.
Mr. Kanago was a veteran of world war I and the American Legion and the Masonic (Giblem) Lodge. He had been active in legion affairs for many years.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 10 at the Mauer Funeral home and burial was in Le Mars city cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home. Rev. James Ransom officiated.
Survivors include his wife, Ann of Le Mars and two children, Miss Patricia M. Kanago and Dennis R. Kanago also of Le Mars. Also surviving is his mother, Mrs. Mary C. Kanago Sioux City and a brother, Percy L. Kanago, Great Bend, Kansas
