Mildred Johnson
Mildred Helen (Wilcox) Johnson, 79, of Odebolt died Thursday, Feb. 8, 1996, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.
Services were held Monday, February 12 at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt with the Rev. Lanny R. Carlson officiating. Burial was in Odebolt Cemetery. Farber & Otteman Funeral Home, Odebolt was in charge of arrangement.
Mrs. Johnson, the former Mildred Helen Wilcox, was born July 2, 1916, in Union County, S. D., the daughter of Frank E. and Bessie (Crow) Wilcox. She attended rural school in Union County and graduated from Akron (Iowa) High School in 1934. She married Willard "Bill" Johnson May 10, 1936, in Akron. The couple moved to Odebolt in 1938, where they worked for Nate and Florence Skolousky in a general store. Several years later they purchased the store and operated it together until retiring in 1971.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Odebolt United Methodist Church, where she was actively involved for many years with Sunday school. she was also active in the Ruth Circle, and was a member and past president of United Methodist Women. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star and was a 50-year member of the odebolt Tuesday Club.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; a brother, Floyd Wilcox of Akron; a son-in-law, F. B. Terry Newell of Alexandria, Va.; and three grandchildren, Skipper, Teddy and Whitney Grace Newell.She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Lynda.
