DEATH SUMMONS PIONEER FORMER AKRON RESIDENT

Last Rites Are Held Monday Afternoon For Joe Brundeen

A well known resident of this community for many years, Jonas (Joe) Brundeen was called to his reward on Saturday, December 10, at the hospital in Yankton, S. D., after an extended illness, aged 83 years, 4 months and 16 days.

Mr. Brundeen was born July 24, 1883 in Limared, Vastergotland, Sweden, and was there baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran church in youth. He came to America in March, 1906. On February 23, 1910, he was united in marriage with Miss Marie H. Anderson, and they farmed west of Akron in Union county, S. D., until 1942, when they retired and moved to town. His wife preceded him in death in September, 1949. Their union was blessed with a son, Arnold E.

Mr. Brundeen was possessed of a jovial nature and by his friendly and helpful ways had gained a host of friends in this community. He had been a member of Immanuel Lutheran church since 1948.

Surviving, besides his son, Arnold E., of Cherokee, Iowa, was his brother, Arthur, of Elk Point, S. D., a brother and four sisters in Sweden, and one grandson and two great-granddaughters.

Funeral services, Monday afternoon in Immanuel Lutheran church, were conducted by Rev. David J. Roy. Mrs. Stuart Harris was vocalist and Mrs. Henning Shoulberg was organist. Casket bearers were Ernest Anderson, Russell Anderson, Fred Claesson, Sr., John Frisk, Robert Root and Alvin Frisk. Interment in Riverside cemetery.
