Gertrude R. Ruhland, 84, of Le Mars, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, following a brief illness.

Miss Ruhland, a Plymouth County native and lifelong resident, was born August 9, 1916, on a family farm in Stanton Township and attended rural school. She moved into Le Mars in 1947 and had lived in town since that time. Gertrude had been employed for more than 26 years with Vander Meer Bakery in Le Mars. For the last 18 months she had resided at Plymouth Manor Care Center.

Gertrude was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Guild.

Survivors include a sister-in-law Darlene (Ruhland) Feller and her husband La Verne of Le Mars; 14 nieces and nephews; and 70 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sister: Alvina Sitzman, Reta Sitzman, and Mary Meister; a brother Virgil Ruhland; and three nephews: Eldon, Dewayne, and Darvin Sitzman.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today (Monday) at St. Joseph’s Catholic Chur in Le Mars, with the Rev. Andrew Hoffman presiding. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Neptune, rural Hinton.

Visitation was after 4 p.m. Sunday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers were Floyd Sitzman, David Sitzman, Gary Sitzman, Francis Meister, Norbert Ruhland, Dennis Sitzman, and Kyle Keunen.
