He was an avid baseball player in High School, setting several baseball records. Following high school, Ted enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. In the Navy, he spent four years with artillery and was present at the “Bay Of Pigs” in Cuba. After four years of active duty, he was honorably discharged from the Navy and returned to Le Mars, Iowa. He worked for some time for Jim Sorbe as a grain hauler and C&S Trucking as an over-the-road trucker.

Ted’s smile, known to be bigger than his face, was often seen at the pool hall playing pool or playing bass with the bands, “Off The Wall” and “Booze Bros”. Music was a very important part of his life and he often put a favorite record on and just relaxed listening. Ted was a huge NASCAR fan; he particularly enjoyed watching his favorite driver Kyle Bush on his extra, extra large HD television. He was an avid member of the NRA and Wasmer American Legion in Le Mars, Iowa.
