Young Mother Dies
Mrs. Hilda Byers Lived in Union Township Many YearsMrs. Hilda Byers, of Pierson, aged 25 years, died at a hospital in Sioux City Sunday, February 17, following an operation. She is survived by her husband, August Byers, and two sons, John, two and a half years old, and Richard, seven months old. She also leaves to mourn her death her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Singer, of LeMars, five brothers, Urban, Elkton, Minn.; John, of Union township; Albert, Clarence and Francis of LeMars; and three sisters, Mrs. Wm. Schuldt, Kingsley, Mrs. Ben Byers, of Moville; Miss Amelia Singer, of LeMars. The family formerly lived in Union township where Mrs. Byers was born and grew up. She taught school there for a number of years before her marriage. She had many friends who regret to learn of her early death.
The funeral was held Wednesday at Moville. Her five brothers and her brother-in-law, Wm. Schuldt, were pall bearers.
PIERSON, IA., WOMAN CALLED BY DEATH
Mrs. Hilda Byers, of Pierson, Ia., died at a Sioux City hospital late Sunday night following an operation. Mrs. Byers was 24 years old and had been married only a few years. Besides her husband and two minor sons she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Singer of LeMars, five brothers; Uban, of Elkton, S.D.; John, Albert Francis and Clarence all of LeMars, and three sisters: Mrs. Will Schuldt, of Kingsley, Ia.,; Mrs. Ben Byers, of Moville, Ia.; and Miss Amelia Singer of LeMars. Word was received by Remsen relatives early Monday, that Mrs. August Byers, living on a farm near Pierson, had died in a Sioux City hospital late Sunday night. Mrs. Byers will be better remembered by Remsen people as Miss Hilda Singer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Singer, formerly of this vicinity.
Mrs. Byers was ill but a short time with peritonitis, and was taken to a Sioux City hospital last Saturday afternoon. Death came late Sunday. The deceased was born on a farm southwest of Remsen where the family lived for many years, leaving for LeMars about six years ago. She was 24 years of age, and is survived by her husband and two small children.
The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 1 o’clock at Moville, where interment was also made.

Barb says Hilda’s year of birth was 1898….that would place her death in abt 1922 or 1923. Unfortunately, none of these three obits clarify the year of death.***UPDATE**The obituary of the youngest son,Richard,has been found. Richard was born July 3, 1923--his mother, Hilda, died seven months later on Feb. 17, 1924.]
