Hawarden, IA – Merva Hartman, 89, died Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hawarden. Burial will be at Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden. Reverend Todd Bunge will officiate. Visitation will begin Sunday at noon with the family present from 6:30 – 8:30 and a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m., Sunday at Porter Funeral Home, Hawarden.

Merva was born March 5, 1915 to Arthur and Mamie (Tucker) Rozell in Westfield Township, south of Akron, IA where she attended country school. She was united in marriage to William "Bill" Hartman on October 28, 1939 in Sioux City. Together they lived in Chatsworth, IA for a short time before moving south of Hawarden where they farmed for over 40 years, before retiring to Hawarden in 1980. Bill died December 5, 1992. Merva was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hawarden where she was active in Ladies Aid. She also was a volunteer at the Thrift Shop, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed playing cards, canning and embroidering.

Survivors include her sons: Dale (Patricia) of New Ulm, MN and Allen (Amy) of Rochester, MN; daughters: Beverly (Daryl) Schlumbohm of Ireton, IA and Linda (Denny) Miller of West Lafayette, IN; 8 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mona Smith of Akron.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; 6 brothers: Arthur, Arden, Arvil, Alva, Archie and Arlo; five sisters: Mabel, Mae, Mary, Marie and Muriel.
