WELL KNOWN PRESTON TOWNSHIP FARMER ASPHYXIATED

George C. Rembe is Found Lifeless Sitting on the Runnin Board of His Car--Was An Old Resident of This County

George C. Rembe, a well known resident of Plymouth county for many years, was the victim of a fatal accident on Sunday afternoon, being asphyxiated by gas in the automobile garage at his home in Preston township.

Mr. Rembe went to the garage about three o'clock in the afternoon for the purpose of overhauling his car. His prolonged absence from the house caused alarm among the members of the household, and his sons, John and Edward, being told by their wives that they had not seen the father for some hours, instituted a search and on going to the garage found Mr. Rembe sitting on the running board of the car with his right arm extended above him onto the door of the car. The unforunate man had evidently been overcome by fumes of gas while at work on the car. The garage was tightly enclosed and Mr. Rembe had gone in and shut the door behind him.

Efforts were made to resuaciate him and a doctor was summoned but it was too late.

George C. Rembe was born in Erie Penn., March 16, 1857, and died december 30, 1917, at his home in Preston township, aged 60 years and 9 months. He was married to Harriet A Tooker on the fourth day of July 1878.

To this union twelve children were born, ten of whom with their mother, survive to mourn the death of a beloved husband and father, and are as follows: Mrs. John Muth, Jr., Charles, Edward, Will, George, Minnie, John and Earl Rembe, all residing in the home community, and Mrs. Henry Muth, near Carter, S.D.

Some years ago Mr. Rembe was a resident of Le Mars, but for more than twenty years he has resided inPreston township, where he is well and favorably known. He has been always honest and honorable in his dealings, and because of his interest in the civil affairs of his community was made district road supervisor and for a umber of years public school director. He was a member of the I. O. O. F., the Rebekahs, M. W. of A., and the Royal Neighbors.

Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his departure, an aged mother and brother near Merrill, a brother, Fred, whose place of residence is unknown, and three sisters, AMrs. fred Thompson, of Downs, Kansas, Mrs. Charles albright, near Brunsvill, Mrs. Nettie Tooker, of Le Mars, Iowa. With these a host of old acquaintances and neighbors.

The funeral was held on Wednesday at the First Methodist church in Le Mars, Rev. J. K. Hawkins officiating, and the interment made in the city cemetery.

A very large concourse of neighbors and friends followed the remains from the home to the chruch and cemetery, evidencing the esteem and respect in which the dead man was held in the community.
