In Memory of Agnes Mills

Agnes Honolulu Mills, aged sixteen years, died Tuesday, Sept. 1st.

Many leave us just when their life is opening into bloom. The cruel blight of disease touches the petals and the flower withers and dies. Agnes Mills was the only daughter of D.M. Mills of Sioux township. Hers was an ideal life, her brothers loved her. She was her father's joy; the star of the home. "Ula," the sweet tempered one, cheerful, never complaining; full of music and song, bright and clever in her school; earnest and active in the Sunday school; entertaining in the social life. She was full of fun, so that every body near, loved her.

Many are idolized and worshiped when they are dead, but she was loved and honored while she lived. She was very fair, graceful in all her movements, so gracious in all her actions, so sweet and tidy in her habits. But it was not for these that we love her most. The lovely face, the winning smile, the merry laughter have passed away, but her gentle love, her holy spirit and the grace divine still live and tell us to “Be good, do noble deeds, and not dream them all the day long and so make life, death, and the great forever, one grand sweet song.”
