Death of Aged Citizen

William Gale, who has made his home with his son, Will Gale, Jr., about two miles northwest of Struble, was called to his reward on Saturday at the advanced age of 87 years. He was a most devout member of the Catholic church.

The funeral was held from St. James church in Le Mars on Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Father E. O’Farrell and the remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery beside those of his wife who died about 14 years ago.

Although he had attained an extremely great age his faculties were bright and he had enjoyed good health until about two weeks ago when he was taken with a severe cold from which complications arose resulting in his death.

He was born in Ireland 87 years ago and came to America in 1854, locating at New York. He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Groghan. They resided in New York for several years and then went to Galena, Ill., to reside. Five children came to bless them. Two of the children and the loving wife preceded him to the grave.

He is survived by three sons all residing in this county. They are Jas., residing in Westfield township, and John and Will residing near Ruble.

He came to Plymouth county in 1874 and has made his home here ever since. By his worth as a man he has gained the esteem and respect of all and his death will be sincerely mourned.

William Gale, brief mention of whose death was made in the last issue of this paper, was one of the pioneer residents of Plymouth county coming to this section in 1874.

He was a native of Ireland where he was born eighty-seven years ago. In 1854 he left his native land and came to New York where be lived for several years, and where he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Groghan. They subsequently moved to Galena, Ill., and later to Plymouth county. Five children were born to them. Two of the children and his wife preceded him to the grave.

He leaves three sons who reside in this county, James, who lives in Westfield township and John and William who live in Preston township. Although he had attained a great age he preserved his faculties to the last and enjoyed good health. He caught cold about two weeks ago and other complications arose which terminated in death.

The funeral was held on Monday at St. James church Rev. Father O’Farrell officiating and was largely attended by old friends and neighbors by whom the deceased was held in great esteem and respect.
