Word was received here that Fred Mathwig, the aged father of Mrs. Wm. Janssen, passed away on Thursday evening at Fairmont, Minn.
He was a well known pioneer of this vicinity, having resided here until the last few years. Mr. mathwig lived to a remarkable age of eight-six years.
He is survived by his aged wife and five married daughters this being the first death in the family.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at Fairmont.

FRITZ MATHWIG, ONE OF THE PIONEERS IN SOUTH PART OF COUNTY
Friends in Le Mars were notified this week of the death of Fritz Mathwig, an early settler in Lincoln township and a resident of Le mars until a few years ago, when he and his wife moved to Fairmont, Minn., to make their home with a daughter, Mrs. M. Mathwig.
Mr. Mathwig died last Thursday at the age of 86 years from old age and heart complications.
He was a native of Germany and came to America when a youth with other members of his family. The Mathwig family were among the first settlers in Lincoln township.
Mr. Mathwig is survived by his wife and his daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hanks, Mason City; Mrs. William Jensen, Of Neptune; Mrs. Allen Rademacher, Fairmont, Minn.; Mrs. Rose Reed, Watertown, S. D.; Mrs. M. Mathwig, Fairmont, Minn. A half sister, Mrs. Michael Gabel, resides in Le Mars, and a sister, Mrs. Gustave Prust, at Fairmont, Minn..
The funeral services were held Sunday and interment made at that place.
