Everett Harkness, 90, of Le Mars, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Dellas Everett Harkness was born on March 25, 1923, in Union County, South Dakota, to Isaac Dellas and Mary Ellen (Price) Harkness. He was raised on a farm near Akron, until the family moved to Washington state in 1936. While living in Washington, Everett finished high school and worked in the shipyards. In 1945 the family returned to the Akron area.

On Dec. 10, 1954, Everett and Lucille Moffatt were united in marriage at Akron. They made their first home in Akron prior to moving to Le Mars.

Everett worked for Tower Construction Company in Sioux City, until it closed.

He later took a position with Quaker Oats (later Cargill Nutrena Feed Division). Everett worked in the maintenance department for 22 years, retiring in 1986.

Everett was an active member of the Le Mars Church of Christ. He served as Sunday school teacher, treasurer and helped with many activities including the operation of the sound system and electrical work. He was also on the committee to relocate the church to its present location.

Everett will be lovingly remembered by his three sisters, Tena and Tobey Harvey, of Le Mars, Fannie and Kendall Talbott, of Booneville, Mo., and Gladys Petersen, of Smith Center, Kan.; a brother, James and Dorothy Harkness, of Briar, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille on Sept. 15, 2011; and three brothers, William and wife AnnaBelle, Robert and wife Ann, and Ralph.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Donald Gordon will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars.

Visitation with the family present will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
