WAR CASUALTY—William Rosenow, a machinist’s mate in the Navy and son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rosenow, farmers living five miles west of Merrill, Ia., was killed in action, apparently in the Pacific war area, the parents have been informed. He was the second person from this territory to enlist when war broke out. Surviving in addition to the parents are three brothers, George, an air corps instructor at Keestler field, Biloxi, Miss.; Albert, in the air corps at Pittsburg, Kan., and Ernest, employed in a defense plant in California, and a sister, Helen, living in Sioux City.

MERRILL SAILOR LOST IN ACTION
William Rosenow, 25, Killed, Parents Are Informed

Merrill, Ia.—Special: William Rosenow, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rosenow, farmers living about five miles west of here, has been killed in action, the Navy department informed the parents by telegraph Friday.

The message said it would be impossible to return the body to Merrill. The casualty was the first of the war in this area.

No word of where the action in which young Rosenow was killed took place was received by the parents. Rosenow, a graduate of Liberty Consolidated high school in 1935, had been in the Navy five years. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor four years.

Surviving in addition to the parents are four brothers, George and Albert, both in the Army, Ernest, employed on the west coast, and Charles, and two sisters, Mrs. Jorville Stinton and Helen Rosenow of Merrill.
