Obituary Published in the LeMars Sentinel
Anna Benham VanSickel was born at Byron, New York on May 19, 1833. Her father was Charles S. Benham, a well to do farmer. When she was sixteen years old her mother died and she came west to Flint, Michigan and made her home with her elder sister, Mrs. E. C. Eldridge, and taught school for several years.
On December 16, 1856, she was united in marriage with H. W. Van Sickel and they lived in eastern Iowa. On May 10, 1872, they came to LeMars to reside and this has been their home since.
Besides the bereaved husband she leaves four sons and five daughters to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother.
Mrs. Van Sickel was well known to all the older residents and to many of the younger people in LeMars and was held in high esteem in the community. Her death will be keenly felt by many old friends with whom she has been associated for more than thirty years. (source: Obit of Anna Benham Van Sickel printed on 10 Feb 1905 in the LeMars Sentinel)
