DEATH CLAIMS RHODA TEMPLE
WAS MEMBER OF ONE OF FIRST FAMILIES LOCATING IN CITY OF LEMARS
END COMES SUDDENLY
HAD BEEN AT WORK AS USUAL DURING THE DAYMrs. Rhoda V. Temple, a member of a well known pioneer family, her parents being among the first settlers in Le Mars, died very suddenly at her home, 2500 Jones Street, Sioux City, Tuesday, about midnight. Mrs. Temple, who was employed as a sales manager in the Pelletier store, had been at work as usual that day. In the evening she dined with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Will L. Temple, of Elk Point, S. D., at a down town restaurant. They escorted her to her home later in the evening and left her apparently in the best of health and spirits. Mrs. Temple shortly after 11 o'clock was taken ill and complained of a severe pain in the region of her heart. Mrs. Webb Kellogg, an old friend, at whose house Mrs. Temple had an apartment, came to her assistance and sent for medical aid. Mrs. Temple passed away in a few minutes. The attending physicians ascribed her death to myocarditis, or a failure of the heart muscles.
Mrs. Temple had been suffering from indisposition for about three weeks and had taken treatment for pleurisy, but a short time, ago, feeling better, had resumed her work in the store. Her sudden death came as a great shock to her family and friends. The body was brought to Le Mars and the funeral will be held at 10 o'clock this morning at the Beely undertaking rooms, Rev. J. A. Hills, pastor of the First Presbyterian church officiating and interment made in the family burying plot in the city cemetery.
MEMBER OF PIONEER FAMILY
Rhoda Van Sickel was born in Le Mars July 18, 1873. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Van Sickel, who in their lifetime, were early residents coming to Plymouth county when LeMars was only an outpost settlement. Mr. Van Sickel was a large land owner in Le Mars in early days and later engaged in the agricultural implement business and then in the grain business. The grasshopper plague in the late seventies swept away his fortune.
Mrs. Temple spent her girlhood days in Le Mars, attending the public schools and grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage about twenty-nine years ago to Mr. Temple, who died a number of years ago. Mrs. Temple later made her home with her son, William Temple; in Sioux City and was competent and obliging in the avocation which she pursued. She made many friends wherever she lived. Her bright, sunny disposition and general outlook on life made her liked and popular in many circles. She was a devoted daughter and mother and always loyal to her friends.
Her death is mourned by her son, Will L. Temple, of Elk Point, S. D., and her brothers and sisters, who are: Harry Van Sickel, of Gull Lake, Minn., Watson Van Sickel, of Sioux City; Bert Van Sickel, of Omaha, Neb; Mrs. Stephen Kennedy, of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. Belle Hough, of Bena, Minn., and Mrs. O. L. Loudenslager, of Le Mars, and many relatives and friends. One brother, A. Van Sickel, and a sister, Mrs. Cora Thomas, preceded her in death.
