Allen C. Moffatt

Allen C. Moffatt. 75, of Akron died Saturday, Jan. 14, 1995, at his residence following a lengthy illness of cancer.

Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 17, 1995 at First Church of Christ in Akron with the Rev. Edward Sneed and Rev. Merrill Davis officiating. Keith Miller and Richard Porter sang "The Old Rugged Cross," and Randy Frerichs sang "It Is Well With My Soul" and "Beyond The Sunset." Diane Sneed was organist. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Akron, with military rites by Hoschler Post 186, American Legion of Akron. Arrangements were under direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Casket bearers were Scott Moffatt, Stacy Moffatt, Shawn Moffatt, Brett Moffatt, Shane Moffatt, and Kelly Moffatt. Honorary bearers were Kristy Bowman, Paul Dicks, Tom Dicks, Kashea Moffatt, Karl Dicks, Lori Dicks, Genie Coon, Mikeal Moffatt, Jessica Moffatt, and Misty Moffatt.

Mr. Moffatt was born March 17, 1919 on a farm year Westfield, Iowa, the son of George Christy and Esther (Boyd) Moffatt. He was the first draftee from Plymouth County to serve in World War II, serving in the United States Army from March 3, 1941 to 1945. He served 15 of those months with the European Theater. He received two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Viola Peck April 4, 1942 in Omaha, Neb. They farmed for 45 years in the Westfield area before moving to Akron in 1993.

He was a member of the Le Mars Church of Christ, serving as an elder for 30 years. He was also a member of Hoschler Post 186,-American Legion of Akron, and belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Elk Point, S.D.

Survivors include his wife; four sons and their wives, Lyle and Geraldine of Sioux City, Richard and Chris of Akron, David and Rosanne of Aurora, Colo., and Kevin and Deborah of Westfield; a sister and her husband, Lucille and Everett Harkness of Le Mars, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Harold and Helen of Akron, and Frank and Kay of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Michael Dicks, and a great-granddaughter, Paula Dicks.
