William J. Geary Claimed By Death

Successful Farmer In Plymouth County

Death came unexpectedly to William J. Geary, 83, retired farmer, well known in Plymouth county for many years. Although he had been failing in health the past six months he was around and up town till within a day or two. He suffered a stroke late Monday afternoon and passed away at the Sacred Heart hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Geary was one of the early settlers in Stanton township, coming to Le Mars in the seventies. He was engaged in farming and made a success of his calling.

Born near Cascade, Iowa, December 18, 1858, he came to Le Mars when a youth of sixteen and worked for farmers in Plymouth county.

After being here for a period he went back to Cascade and shortly returned with his brother, Patrick Geary. William Geary lived here continuously the rest of his life with the exception of ten years when he lived at Wayne, Neb.

He is survived by five sons and five daughters and a large number of descendants: D. W. Geary, Vermillion, S. D.; George M. Geary, Prairie du Chien, Wis.; Charles Geary, Norfolk, Neb; Jos. A. Geary, Le Mars; F. T. Geary, Madison, Neb.; Mrs. Dan Driscoll, Russell, Minn.; Mrs. Roy Manning, Oyens; Mrs. George M. Hart, Des Moines; Mrs. W.m Ahern, Florence Montana; Stella Geary, in the British Isles, thirty-seven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Mrs. Don Stanton, preceded him in death.

The funeral will be held at St. James church in this city Saturday, May 9, at 9 a.m., and interment made in St. James cemetery.

Wiltgen’s funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
