Note: His mother's maiden name was Jurgenson. Though it doesn't mention it here he is referred to as Carl in his parents' obituaries. He is listed as Charlie on the military list cemetery in France.

PRIVATE CHARLES LORENSEN

Mr. and Mrs. John Lorensen, of this city, received the sad news from the war department at Washington last Thursday that their son, Private Lorensen, had died at an army hospital
in France of pneumonia on October 10, 1918.

Charles Lorensen was born in Union county, S. D., January 23, 1893, and attained the age of 25 years, 8 months and 18 days. He lived with his parents northeast of here in Plymouth county for eight years, and two years ago the family moved to Akron. He was un upright, Industrious young man, highly esteemed In a wide circle of acquaintances.

Besides his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Hans and Ted, of this city, and Will, who is in training at Camp Dodge. It in understood Charles was engaged to be married to Amanda Stephens, of this vicinity. To the bereaved ones, this community offers its sincere sympathy.

Private Charles Lorensen went to Camp Dodge with a contingent of Plymouth county young men May 27, 1918, and went overseas from there last August, where he served in Co. C, 352nd infantry, 88th Division, American Expeditionary Forces. He Is the fourth Akron young man to make the supreme sacrifice in France in the great struggle that recently resulted in a glorious victory for liberty and democracy. Private Lorensen was a unit in the great whole that was required to crush the autocratic powers of Germany, and it is sad to think he could not have been spared to witness the great victory for which he laid down his life.

Although it was not his lot to die on the field of battle, his memory will be no less cherished among the heroes of the great strife.
