Merrill, Iowa - Special funeral services for Mrs. Christian Carstensen, 98, of Rochester, Minn, former Merrill resident will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Rochester. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Hillside Cemetary, Merrill. The Rev. A. Kaupins of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Rock Valley, Iowa will officiate.
Mrs. Carstensen died Thursday at a Rochester hospital following a long illness.
Mrs. Carstensen, the former, Mable Fiebing, was born Jan. 7, 1879. She was married to Christian Carstensen in December 1896. The couple farmed near Merrill before retiring to Rochester to live with a daughter, Miss Sophie Carstensen.
Survivors besides Miss Carstensen include three daughters, Mrs. H.P. Simonsen of Rock Valley, Mrs. Ed Stark of Stewartsville, Minn., and Miss Leone Carstensen of Berkeley, Calif. a son, George of LeMars, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
~Note: This obit says she was 98. Her tombstone reads her birth year as 1879; death year as 1967. That would make her only 88 years of age at death. The SSDI online (I finally found her) states her name as Ebel Carstensen, born 07 Jan 1879, died August 1967, last RES was Rochester, MN.
