DEATH COMES TO ESTEEMED AKRON WOMAN LAST WEEK

Mrs. W. Hitzemann Was Pioneer Resident Of This Vicinity

As mentioned in these columns last week, Mrs. Mrs. Winifred Hitzemann, one of Akron’s most highly esteemed residents, passed away suddenly at the Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, on Wednesday evening, June 25, 1947, at the age of 66 years, 4 months, and 18 days. Mrs. Hitzemann had undergone an operation there on June undergone an operation there on June 16 and was believed to be making a very satisfactory recovery. She was looking forward to coming home very soon, but an embolism developed and death came without warning. Her daughter, Lois, was with her at the time of her death.

Winifred Marion Clementson was born February 7, 1882, the daughter of Johan and Betsey Clementson, pioneer residents near Richland, Union county, South Dakota. She attended grade school at Richland and high school at Elk Point, S. D. Later she continued her schooling at Sioux Falls, S. D. and at Fremont Normal, Fremont, Neb. She was a conscientious and outstanding teacher.

In 1899, Mrs. Hitzemann begun her teaching career, which continued for twenty-one years. Her first position was at Centerville, S. D. Many other successful teaching terms were completed at Sayles Richland and Elk Points schools in Union county, S. D., and at the Westfield, Akron, public, Riverview and Searls schools in Iowa. Her years of teaching were a pleasure to her and she left an enviable record at the close of each term. For the past fourteen years Mrs. Hitzemann has held the position of librarian in the Akron public Library. Here she continued the cheerful, efficient service which she had exemplified throughout her life.

On August 1, 1906, she was united in in marriage with Louis Hitzemann, of Akron. To this union was born one daughter, Lois, who mourns her sudden passing. Mr. Hitzemann preceded her in death in 1939. One brother Wiliam B. Clementson, of Sioux City, is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her Christian character was shown in her Christian living.

Mrs. Hitzemann’s jovial personality will always be a treasured memory to all who knew her.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in the Akron Methodist church, conducted by Rev. albert A. Howe, the pastor. A duet comprised of Mrs. Wm. Lundberg and Mrs. Orin Harris, sang, “In the Garden” and the “Twenty-third Psalm.” with accompaniment by Mrs. W. J. Brunner.

Acting as pallbearers were Wm.Lundberg, Lowell Bennett, Harold Adams, George Thorberg, Donald Ross and Leslie Mitchell. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

Relatives and friendswho came from a distance were: Mr.and Mrs. W. B. Clementson, Neva Jackson, AlmaAustin, Mr. and Mrs.G.D. McKnight, all of Sioux City; Mrs. K. B. Stoddared, of Parker, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Lauren Stoddard and Mrs. Ralph Benson and Karla of Hurley, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Clementson, of York, Neb.

The following verses were selected by Miss Lois Hitzemann asa fitting tribute to her beloved mother:

“Like a ship that’s left its moorings
And sails bravely out to sea,
And sails bravely out to sea,
So Mother, dear, has sailed away
In calm serenity.
But there’s premise of a greater joy
Then earth could have in store.
For God has planned a richer life
Beyond the unseen shore.”
