Hope Elsie Harbeck, 78, of Sioux City died Sunday, April 30,1995, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services were held Wednesday, April 3 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel with the Rev. Tom Hotle of Crescent Park United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Harbeck was born Sept. 10, 1916, in Westfield Township, the daughter of Ira and Elvera “Tulla” (Sorensen) Smith. She was raised in Akron, Iowa, and attended rural Plymouth County schools. She married Orville Harbeck Aug. 31, 1933, in Sergeant Bluff. A longtime Sioux City resident, she worked for many years as a sales associated in several variety stores.
Mrs. Harbeck was a member of Crescent Park United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Orville; a son, Eugene L. and his wife, Joan of Bronson, Iowa; a daughter, Darlene McSparran and her husband, Harold of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; two brothers, Ward Smith of O’Neill, Neb., and Virgil Smith and his wife, Mary of Akron; a sister, Ella Johnson and her husband, Melvin of Akron; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert “Bob”, John C. “Jack”, and Harry R. Smith.
A memorial has been established in her name with Crescent Park United Methodist Church.
