WAS AN EARLY COUNTY SETTLER

August Jammerthal Located Near Le Mars, 1879, Then Near Akron

August Jammerthal, one of the early day residents of western Plymouth county, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Louis Kaetke, north of town, Wednesday morning, November 2, 1932,of heart trouble, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 7 days.

Mr. Jammerthal was born September 25, 1852, at Karlsruhe, Germany,where he grew to young manhood. In February, 1869, he came with his parents from Germany and settled at Waterloo, Iowa. He resided there one year, moving with his parents to Newell, Buena Vista county, where they resided until the fall of 1872, when they came to Plymouth county, homesteading on a farm south of Le Mars. Later he moved to his farm south of Akron, where he lived until the year 1918, when he moved to Akron and continued to make his home here up to the time of his death. He was united in marriage with Julia Huebner on August 30, 1884. Five children came to gladden their home, all of whom are living except one son,Herman,who died in infancy.

The surviving children are: Mrs. Lizzie Kaelke, Will Jammerthal, Mrs. Sarah Chambers and Harold Jammerthal all of Akron vicinity. His wife passed away June 27, 1929. He also leaves to mourn his departure one sister, Mrs. Lena Hughes, of Roy, Wash., and one brother, Leo Jammerthal, of Ashland, Ore.; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was a kind and loving husband and father and a good neighbor, who will be missed by his many friends in this community.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Akron M. E. church, conducted by Rev. F. F. Robinson.A quarter comprised of Miss Emida Snyder, Miss Clara Stoutenburg, Mr. Jenson and Mr. Trueblood, sang “Safe in the Arms of Jesus”and “A City Four-Square.”

The pallbearers were; Dick Rohiken, Wm. Bohiken, John Kluver, Louis Taylor,Walter Ross, and August Klemme. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
