Lloyd George Howe

Hinton, Iowa---Lloyd G. Howe 77, died Wednesday July 11, 2001 at a St Luke's Hospital, Sioux City. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 14. 2001, at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton with the Rev. David Kottlowski officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Casper Post77ofHinton.Visitation
will be after 2:00 p.m. today, with the family present at 6:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars, Iowa. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Mr. Howe was born Dec. 2, 1923 near Hinton, the son of George John and Amanda Ida Emma (Ideker)Howe. He attended country school in Lincoln Township and graduated from Leeds High School in Sioux City, in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to the Hinton area and farmed with his father.

He married Mavis Anne (Nuessle) on Aug. 5, 1947,at Trinity Lutheran Church, in rural Hinton. He was employed at a mechanic at Graham Brake of Sioux City, and as head of maintenance at J.C. Penney Co.in Sioux City for 25 years. He retired in 1988. He also owned and operated Howe Lawn and Garden for over 25 years.

His wife died May 31, 1995.

Lloyd was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church all his life. He served as an usher, taught Sunday School and held various offices. He was also a member and present commander of American Legion Casper Post 477 of Hinton.

Survivors include a son and his wife Ronald Scott and Christine (Berg) of rural Hinton, three daughters and their husbands, Kathleen Anne and William (Phil)Baker of Noblesville, Indiana; Hollie Jean and Danny Dell Cummins of Copperas Cove, Texas; and Lisa Aileen and Preston Olsen of Colorado Springs, Colorado: 11 grandchildren, Sharah Anne (Baker)and her husband Jay Maddox, Rebecca Marie and William Robert-Lloyd Baker; Nathan, Matthew, Allyson,
and Joshua Howe; Nicholas and Andrew Cummins;
and Meagan and Bryce Olsen. A great-grandson,
James Eli Baker-McCoy; and two brothers Lowell of
Phoenix, Arizona and Loren and his wife Bernice of Goehner, Nebraska.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, his parents,two grandchildren; Christopher Boyd Baker and Elizabeth Marie Cummins; and a sister-in-law Shirley (Conrady) Howe.

Pall bearers will be members of the American Legion Casper Post 477.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church Perpetual Care Fund, at Hinton, Iowa.
