George Held, former state lawmaker, dead

George Edward Held, 89, Hinton, a former state representative from Plymouth county, died Sunday at Brentwood nursing home, following a long illness.

He was born July 1, 1877, at Hinton. He married Agnes Eyres March 8, 1922, at Le Mars. Mr. Held was one of the first graduates of the Le Mars Normal school, now Westmar college.

Mr. Held served as a state representative from 1920 to 1928 from Plymouth county. He was also a member of the Hinton school board for 22 years.

A shorthorn cattle and shropshire sheep raiser, he also imported German coach horses. He was a member of the Hinton Methodist church.

Survivors are the widow; two sons, Thomas of Hinton and Dr. Stanley Held of Buffalo, Minn.; a daughter, Mrs. Katherine Shores of Columbus, Ind.; three brothers, Walter, Ben and Albert, all of Hinton and seven grandchildren.

The body was taken to Nelson-Berger Northside funeral home in Sioux City.

Life’s End

FUNERAL IS PLANNED WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON FOR GEORGE HELD

Funeral services for George Held, 89, of Hinton, former state representative from Plymouth County, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist church at Hinton.

Rev. W. Marion Bloodworth will officiate. Burial will be in the Melbourne cemetery near Hinton under the direction of Nelson-Berger funeral home in Sioux City.

Mr. Held died Sunday at the Brentwood nursing home after a long illness.
