Melvin K. Williams

Westfield, Iowa – Melvin K. Williams, 81, of Westfield died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Township Cemetery, rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Williams was born July 15, 1920, at Ridge Road, rural Hinton, the son of Earl C. and Laura (Smith) Williams. He grew up in the Hinton area and attended country school.

He married Mildred Jones in June 1952, in Elk Point, S.D. He worked for Armour and Co. from 1948 to 1963. He worked for Iowa Pig from 1965 to 1973, then for Walter Hummell Propane in Westfield from 1973 to 1978. He worked at Dirks Motor from 1978 to 1980, then with Godberson Monument Co. In addition to these jobs, he farmed in Westfield for many years. He wife died Feb. 19, 1981, in Sioux City.

Survivors include a son, Charles of Westfield; six brothers, John of Sioux City, Daryl of South Sioux City, Howard of South Sioux City, Richard of Merrill, Iowa, Paul of Hinton, and Gary of Merrill; two sisters, Jean Woodruff and Doris Williams, both of Los Angeles, a sister-in-law, Genevieve Williams of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lester.

Pallbearers will be Don Graves, Doug Williams, Matt Williams, Mike Lloyd, Ryan Bergman, and Travis Lloyd. Honorary pallbearer will be Larry Williams.
