Note: Some family obituaries spell his first name Lewis. His mother's maiden name was Siebens. Some family obituaries spell the wife's maiden name Collman.

Heart Attack Proves Fatal to Louis Borchers-Funeral Held Monday

Louis Borchers, 61, a widely known and prominent farmer of Preston township, this county, passed away early last Thursday morning, December 16, 1937. Death was due to a heart attack, terminating a long illness from diabetes, during which he twice underwent amputations of his leg. He withstood his affliction with great patience and fortitude.

Mr. Borchers was born in Will county, Illinois, October 29, 1876, and came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernhard Borchers, to Plymouth county in 1880. He grew to manhood on the farm in Preston township, among a large number of brothers and sisters, and attended the rural school. Upon his marriage to Emma Collmann, a member of another, pioneer family of this county, on February 27, 1902, he engaged in farming on his own account. He was a successful farmer, a fine citizen, a kind and devoted husband and father, a good neighbor and friend, and will be greatly missed in the community in which he has resided so many years. He was active in community and social life and served as a member of the trustee board of the Lutheran church in Preston township.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Cliff Noble, of Grant township; four sons, William, Benjamin and Henry, of Preston towhship, and Harvey, of San Francisco, Calif.; ten grandchldren, and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services wer held Monday afternoon in the Preston township Lutheran church, Rev. Theo. Meyer officiating. Interment was in the cemetery there.
