EDWARD 0. JOHNSON CALLED BY DEATH FRIDAY MORNING
Last Rites Held Monday For Pioneer Resident Of This Community
Edward 0. Johnson, a well known and highly esteemed pioneer resident of this community, passed away at his home in this city Friday morning, September 20, 1946, after an extended illness, at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 10 days.
Mr. Johnson was born March 10, 1878, on the homestead of his parents, Hans and Inga Johnson, west of Akron, in Union county, S. D., on which place he resided his entire life with the exception of the past two years of residence in Akron. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Paul Lutheran church, of which he remained a loyal and consistent member. On January 6, 1009, Mr. Johnson was united in marriage with Miss Inga Rodvold, and their union was blessed with two children. Mrs. Johnson. preceded him in death April 3, 1941.
Mr. Johnson was actively engaged in farming until he was stricken with paralysis March 23, 1943, and since that time he had been bedfast, being tenderly cared for by his daughter, Hilma.
He is survived by one son, Orville, and one daughter HiIma, both residing at home, and one sister, Miss Lena Johnson, of Sioux City.
Mr. Johnson, was an upright, industrious and progressive citizen, a kind husband and father, and a good neighbor, and will be missed in the community where he resided during his entire life.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, from the home and in the St. Paul Lutheran church, southwest of town, conducted by Rev. David J Roy, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran church, of this city. Hymns were sung by a mixed quartet comprised of Miss Myrtle Kjose,, Mrs. O., H. Haug, Enoch Hofstad and Gerhart Groethe, with Miss Cora Gunderson as organ accompanist. Acting as pallbearerswere Jos. Appley, Ed Heeren, N. P. Nielson, Peter Anderson, Lewis Satter and Alfred Kjose. Interment was beside his-wife in St. Paul cemetery.
