Delmer G. Kleihauer, 73, of Akron, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at the Akron Care Center in Akron.
Delmer Kleihauer was born Oct. 25, 1927, in Akron, the son of George and Norma (Steinert) Kleihauer. He attended Portland School in rural Akron. He served in Korea with the United States Army. Mr. Kleihauer lived and farmed three 1/2 miles east of Akron. In 1976, he moved into Akron, where he worked in masonry and carpentry until his retirement in 1990. Mr. Kleihauer was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, the V.F.W. and the Hoschler American Legion Post 186, where he was a lifetime member.
Survivors include two brothers, Kenneth and his wife, Donna, of Le Mars, and Harold of Alcester, S.D.; seven nieces and nephews and their spouses: Darrell and Sheila Kleihauer, Mark Kleihauer, Gordon and Rita Kleihauer, Harlan and Mary Kleihauer, Sandy and Tim Pauley, Audrey and Bob Hubner, and Ardith and Ron Thompson; and 14 great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Eldora; and a nephew, Roger.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Akron, with military graveside services conducted by Hoschler American Legion Post 186. Visitation will be today (Tuesday) from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
