Mrs. Charles (Grace) Johnson
Mrs. Charles (Grace) Johnson, 91, Akron, died Wednesday (Jan. 8, 1986) in the Akron city hospital of a long illness.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Schroeder funeral home in Akron. Grady Bluford of Sioux City officiated. Mrs. Grady Bluford, pianist, accompanied Frances Mackey, soloist, singing "Never Cross Jordon Alone" and "Beyond the Sunset". Burial was in Riverside cemetery in Akron. Pallbearers were John Frazier, Sam Burnight, Allen Moffatt, Frank Moffatt, Darcy Fletcher, and Herb Lias.
Mrs. Johnson, the former Grace Elizabeth Thayer, was born May 21, 1894 to Orson and Rose Rolfes Thayer in Union county, South Dakota. She was one of 15 children. She married Charles Johnson in 1914 at Elk Point. He died Oct. 17, 1957. She formerly worked at Otis Radio at Hawarden for many years.
Survivors include five daughters, Ruth Hansen, Muskegon, Mich., Eva Frazier, Sioux City, Elsie Burnight, Jefferson, S.D., Rose Johnson, Royal Oak, Mich., and Laura Callhan of North Hollywood, Calif.; a sister Florence Wilson and a brother, Ray Thayer, both of Sioux City; 27 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles, 13 brothers and sisters.
