DEATH SUMMONS MRS. SOPHIA HEYL LAST SATURDAY
Last Rites Are Held Monday For Lifelong Resident Of Akron
Mrs. Sophia Heyl, a resident of the Akron area all her life, passed away Saturday, July 16, 1960, at the Akron Hospital, after having been in declining health for several months, at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 23 days.
Sophia Marie Christiansen, daughter of Detlef and Anna Christiansen was born March 23, 1883, in Union county, S, D. On December 4, 1901, she was united in marriage with George H. Heyl, and to them were born three sons and three daughters.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1927, as did also a daughter, Alice in 1904, and a son, Lester, in 1957.
Surviving are two sons, Ralph, of Le Mars, and Clark, of Akron; two daughters, Mrs. Marvin (lona) Baldwin of Akron, and Mrs. LaVerne (Alma) Farmer, of Huntington Park, Calif.; also, 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Josephine Heyl, of Elk Point, and four brothers, George and Julius, of Elk Point; John, of Sioux City, and Lou, of Mobton, Wash. She also provided a home for five nieces and nephews—Floyd, Ivan, Harry and Arthur Frahn and Fern Steinhart—following the death of their mother.
Mrs. Heyl was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church, Akron where funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Rev. C. L. Guinn officiating. Mrs. Stuart Harris was soloist and Mrs. Henning Shoulberg, was accompanist. Acting as casket bearers were husbands of six grand daughters of the deceased—Darrell Boetger, Harlan Rubel, Ray Koopman Robert Lias, Marlyn Mattas and Eldon Smith. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
