DEATH OF CHRIS HAHN

OLD RESIDENT PASSES AWAY AT

PASADENA, CALIFORNIA

LIVED HERE THIRTY-FIVE YEARS

Deceased Was a Successful Farmer in Liberty Township Where He Settled in Early Days — Was a Staunch Supporter of Western Union College.

Relatives in Le Mars received a telegram yesterday announcing the death of Christian Hahn at Pasadena, California, that morning. Mr. Hahn was for many years a resident of this county and was one of the early settlers in Liberty township. He went to California about two years ago to make his home. His wife died there a year ago this month. Mr. Hahn had been a sufferer from cancer of the stomach. The trouble was of long standing and some three years ago he underwent an operation at Rochester, Minn. Since the death of his wife he had a recurrence of the malady and was in poor health all last year.

Mr. Hahn was a native of Germany where he was born in 1830. He would have been seventy years of age next March. He came to America when a young man. Prior to coming to Plymouth county he lived near Galena, Ill. He came to this county thirty-five years ago and engaged in farming and made a success of his avocation and owned a large quantity of land. He is survived by eleven children, who are: Ed Hahn and Chris Hahn, on the old home place near Hinton; Rev. Philip Hahn, Odessa, Minn.; Mrs. B. F. Zuehl, of Le Mars; Mrs. Will Huebsch, of Pomona, Cal.; Will, Henry, Barbara, Martha, Wesley and Fred at home in Pasadena.

The funeral will be held at Pomona, Cal. on Saturday and his remains buried beside those of his wife.

Mr. Hahn was widely known in Plymouth county and enjoyed the respect and esteem of all who knew him. He was a successful man. He was a good friend and neighbor and his home life was ideally happy. Mr. Hahn was a member of the United Evangelical church and always gave of his time and money towards its support and was an influential member. He was a staunch supporter of Western Union College and was interested in the institution from its first inception. Nearly all his children attended the college while the family lived here. He had the welfare of the Institution at heart and devoted much time and energy to efforts towards the growth and development of the school.
