SENEY PIONEER PASSES BEYOND

GEORGE W. REEVES CAME TO PLYMOUTH COUNTY IN THE SIXTIES

George W. Reeves passed away at his home near Yankton, S. D., Friday, February 6, after a few weeks illness of diabetes, at the age of 75 years, 3 months, and 28 [actually 26] days. He was born in Kane county, Illinois, October 11, 1855, and came to Iowa with his parents when 13 years old. He was married to Mary Osborne September 18 [actually Sept. 8], 1875. Nine children were born to their union, three dying in infancy. He resided in and near Seney until March, 1905, when he moved with his family to South Dakota where he resided until the time of his death with the exception of two years he lived near Struble. He leaves to mourn his wife and six children who are John, Frank and Lloyd, at home; Mrs. Maude Hanson, of Gayville, S. D.; Mrs Ruby Thompson, of Irene, S. D., and Edna, near Yankton. Also two brothers and one sister who are Arthur Reeves, of Seney, John Reeves, of LeMars, and Mrs. Martha Trigg, of Pipestone, Minn. Thirteen grandchildren besides a host of neighbors and friends.

The funeral was held from the Congregational church at Mission Hill Monday and the remains laid to rest in the Mission Hill cemetery. A large number of neighbors and friends attended the funeral. Those from LeMars were [brother] John Reeves, [brother Arthur's sons] Wm. and Clarence Reeves, [brother John's son and his wife] Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Reeves, [wife Mary's brothers] John and Stub (Stephen--"Stib" in his own obit) Osborne, [John Osborne's daughter Josie and her husband Moritz and their son Lyle] Mr. and Mrs. Mortiz (sic--Moritz) Kunath and Llye (sic--Lyle), [John Osborne's daughter Mae] Mrs. C. L. Britton, Mrs. Joe Deegan, [brother John's daughter and her husband] Mr. and Mrs. Will Penning, Sol and Frank Perry.

From the LeMars Sentinel, Friday, February 13, 1931:

Seney--Friends were sorry to learn of the death of George Reeves who died on Friday. Mr. Reeves was making his home near Mission Hill, S. D. A number from here attended the funeral which was held on Monday.
