WESTFIELD, Iowa -- Richard E. "Dick" Parrish, 73, of Westfield passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at a Sioux City nursing facility.
Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery, Kingsley, Iowa. Visitation with family will be two hours prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Dick was born Aug. 19, 1938, in Walthill, Neb., to Elzy Parrish and LaVern Cooper. He received his education in country school before finishing in South Sioux City. Dick lived in Cherokee, Iowa, working for Leonard Wittkamp and Lundell Mfg., along with owning and operating a truck for Christenson Brothers.
Dick married Donna Meyer, to which union daughter Deb was born. He later married Grace Otten, to which union daughter Jodi and sons Jim and Jeff were born. He lived and farmed in the Kingsley and Westfield area. Dick worked for Cox Trucking, All Area Transit, Tri-State Auto, and Hopkins Contracting. He owned and operated Sioux City Filter Shop for several years. On April 23, 2011, Dick married Carol Dammann.
Dick built and raced coupes and late model stock cars, and was an active member in various antique tractor clubs in the area.
Dick is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters, Deb (Charlie) Peck and Jodi (Richard) Vondrak; sons, Jim (Jean) Parrish and Jeff (Tracy) Parrish; brothers, Fran (Betty) Parrish and Doyle (Patty) Parrish; sister, Dorothy Heye and her significant other, Bill McGraw; father-in-law, Tater Dammann; a brother-in-law, Leonard Dammann; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gail Jean Cox; stepson. Terri Dammann; and stepfather, Lloyd Cox.
