April 17, 1958AREA RESIDENTS ATTEND FUNERAL AT OELWEIN FOR KELSEY CHAPMAN
Kelsey Allen Chapman, son of Fred and Alice Allen Chapman, was born August 23, 1883, in Buchanan county. He passed away at his home in Olewein, March 30, 1958, at 8:30 p.m. at the age of 74 years.
Mr. Chapman lived in the Struble vicinity in his early boyhood. He grew to manhood in the Aurora community, where most of his life was spent. On Dec. 19, 1907, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Canfield of Aurora. They farmed in the Aurora community until 1923, when they retired and moved to Aurora.
He received a back injury in a fall in 1927 from which he never recovered. In 1942 they moved to Olewein.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Howard (Thelma) Ames and Mrs. Paul (Nelma) Swarts; four grandsons, and one granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at the Hentz chapel April 2 with Dr. L. N. Hauter officiating.
Relatives from LeMars who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Earl Chapman, Mrs. Delton Gritzmaker, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Chapman and daughter, Mary Eileen, Mrs. Orville Cooper and Marvin and Mr. and Mrs. T. K. Chapman.
