Mabel Kennedy

Mabel Kennedy, 89, of LeMars died suddenly Saturday, May 22, 1999, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars. The former Mabel Ellen Penning was born Sept. 15, 1909, on the family farm near Ashton, the daughter of John and Lulu (Lancaster) Penning. She received her education in a country school. She worked for Sears Roebuck and Company in LeMars for several years and later in the office of Plymouth Rural Electrical Cooperative in LeMars, retiring in 1974.

Mabel was a long time member of the First United Methodist church in LeMars, where she was a member of the Faith Circle. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary Aerie 1381. She enjoyed bowling, bingo and playing cards.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Jack Moritz of LeMars; a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Reekers and her husband, Merle, of Sheldon; seven grandchildren, Linda Anderson, Sue Buss, Ned Hauser and his wife Deb, Russ Hauser and his wife Cindy, Rick Kennedy and his wife Peggy, Ken De Groot and his wife Kathy, and Connie West and her husband Gary; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Hinde of Montevideo, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Penning of LeMars; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dennis Kennedy; a great-grandson, Ruben Buss; a brother, Vernon Penning; a son-in-law, Jim Hauser; and a very special friend, Ed Langel.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in LeMars with the Rev. Lynn Potter officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the First United Methodist church in LeMars with a 7 p.m. prayer service tonight at the church. The Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Russ Hauser, Ned Hauser, Rick Kennedy, Ken De Groot, Jeff Langel and Tom Langel.
