ALFRED STINTON
Alfred Stinton was born to Joseph and Esther Fletcher-Stinton in 1848 in Isleham, Cambridgeshire, England. In 1852, at the age of 4, he sailed to America with his parents and settled in Elk River, Iowa. He lived on a farm there with his parents. His mother died in 1866, when Alfred was only 18.
Alfred was 25 when he married Mercy Whitney on June 22, 1873, in Plymouth County, Iowa. Mercy was born in 1854 in Wisconsin and died in 1931 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota.
Alfred had a business selling agricultural implements in Marion, Lyons County, Iowa, for awhile before he apparently moved his business to South Dakota, as in the Census 1880 he is listed as selling agriculture implements in Dakota Territory in Minnehaha County. In 1900 Alfred and Mercy are listed in Buffalo Township, Minnehaha County, South Dakota.
In the 1910 and 1920 Census they are listed in Dell Rapids, Minnehaha County, South Dakota.
There are no children listed for Alfred and Mercy, however there is a headstone between Alfred and Mercy of a girl named Gertrude Stinton born 1885 and died in 1902.
Alfred died November 12, 1921, at the age of 73 in South Dakota. They are all buried at the Dell Rapids Cemetery in Dell Rapids, South Dakota.
