Funeral Thursday for Harry Bottjen.
Harry George Bottjen, 79, of Remsen, died Monday, Feb. 10, 1992 at his home in Remsen after a lengthy illness. He had been hospitalized at Marian Health Center, Sioux City, and Floyd Valley Hospital, Le Mars, from June 5 to Aug. 24, 1991.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13 at Christ Lutheran Church here. Rev. James D. Wilson officiated. Burial was in the Remsen City Cemetery under direction of the Moeller Funeral Home.
Mr. Bottjen was born Sept. 5, 1912 at Moville, Ia., the son of George and Minnie Burow Bottjen. He attended country school in the Moville area.
His marriage to Bernice Holtgrewe took place Nov. 24, 1943 at Christ Lutheran Church, Remsen. The couple lived on the family farm south of Remsen. They retired from farming in 1977and moved into Remsen. In 1985 they moved into their present new home.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and an elder and trustee of the church. He also served as head usher for many years and was also a member of the Fellowship Club of the church.
Surviving are his wife, Bernice of Remsen; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Elaine) Eppling of Sioux City; a son, Anthony of Sioux Falls, S.D., eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Rumohr and Mrs. Edna Rumohr of Le Mars, and five brothers, Albert and John of Kingsley, Carl of Hawarden, Elzie of Moville and Cecil of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George Jr.
Casket bearers were Dennis Bottjen, Gary Bottjen, Dean Mohning, Eric Bottjen, Craig Bottjen and Jim Pierce. – Remsen Bell-Enterprise, Feb. 20, 1992
