Veronica “Vernie” Peters, 97, a Remsen native and lifelong resident, died Wednesday November 20, 2002 at the Avoca Nursing and Rehab. Center in Avoca, IA, following a brief illness.
Vernie was born February 3, 1905 near Remsen, the daughter of Frank and Anna Marie (Nothem) Faber. She ws united in marriage to Leslie E. Peters on October 31, 1936. The lived all their married life in Remsen. Her husband Leslie died January 23, 1983. In 1999, Vernie moved to the Allen House in Atlantic, IA, and in March of 2002, she moved to the Avoca Lodge Assisted Living facility in Avoca to be closer to her family.
Vernie was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Martha’s Circle, and O.W.L.S. She had also been a volunteer for many years helping with Chapel Services at Happy Siesta.
She enjoyed crafts such as tatting and crocheting. Vernie also loved to be outdoors in her flower garden and she often brought many of her flowers to church for different occasions.
She is survived by a son Terry Peters and his wife Carol of Avoca, IA; two grandson: Kim Peters of Adair, IA, and Joel Peters of Mesa, AZ; a granddaughter Susan Oehlertz and her husband Troy of Laurens, IA; three great-grandchildren: Chase, Destini, and Troy Oehlertz of Laurens, IA; a sister Momaine Herr of Le Mars, a sister-in-law Maxine Faber of Rockville, MD; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leslie, four brothers: Art, Ray, Lester and Milton Faber; a sister Sylvia Webb; and a granddaughter Sharon.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen with Reverend Craig Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Remsen City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until Service time at the church. Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements. - Le Mars Sentinel, Nov. 21, 2002, page 5.
