Aged Lady Succumbs. Mrs. Jacob Letsche, Long Time Remsen Resident Passed Away Friday, Funeral Held Sunday.
Mrs. Jacob Letsche, a resident of Remsen for the last twenty-three years and well known in this part of the country, passed away at her home shortly after the noon hour last Friday, at the age of 68 years.
She suffered for many years with asthma and other complications and for the past few weeks was severely ill. She is survived by her husband, five children and many other relatives. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Jacob Letsche, born Anna Marie Hermann, was a native of Germany and was born on February 11, 1850, residing in the village of Undingen, Wurtemburg. She grew to young womanhood in the parental home, and on October 23, 1873, was united in marriage to Jacob Letsche, in the same village. The couple resided there until November 1895, when they came to the United States, settling at once on a farm in Remsen township, Plymouth County, Iowa. They operated the farm successfully, occupying the same place for fourteen years and in 1909 they retired and moved into Remsen, living here ever since.
Mrs. Letsche was feeble for many years, becoming afflicted with asthma before she came to this country. This ailment troubled her for the rest of her life, and of late other internal disorders caused her considerable suffering. She was able to attend to household duties under difficulties for a number of years past, and was confined to the sick bed for about ten days prior to her death, which came at ?:45 p.m. last Friday.
The deceased is survived by her husband and the following five children: Martin, Herman, Gotthilf and Mary now Mrs. Louis Schmitz all of Remsen, and George of Humboldt, S.D. She is also survived by two sisters and one brother residing in Germany, and there are nineteen grandchildren to mourn her departure.
Mrs. Letsche was a good, kind Christian woman, a staunch supporter of the Christ Lutheran Church and was beloved by all who knew her. She was helpful and considerate to her neighbors and friends whenever she was able, and her many friends in this community regret her death and extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
The funeral was held last Sunday afternoon with services at the home at two o’clock and at Christ Lutheran Church at two-thirty. Services were conducted by the Rev. J. P. Guenther. The body was laid to rest in the Remsen cemetery.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral are George Letsche, a son, and George Hermann a nephew of the deceased, both of Humboldt, S.D. – Thursday, November 21, 1918, Remsen Bell Enterprise.
