HARRIS—At the family home, six miles northeast of Akron, in Portland township, Friday evening, February 27, 1903, Mrs. Reese Harris. The sad news was received with profound sorrow by the many friends who scarcely knew of her illness. She had suffered but a brief while with la grippe and complications.
Emma Jones was born at Barneveld Wisconsin, September 17, 1860. She was united in marriage with Reese Harris January 5, 1887, and to them have been born five children—three boys and two girls. The family came to this township in March, 1889, and has since resided here. Mrs. Harris was a devout member of the Welsh Calvinistic M. E. church. To her the home and the family circle were paramount—
Home was her kingdom, love her dower—
She sought no other wand of power
To make homo sweet, bring heaven near,
To win a smile and wipe a tear,
And do her duty day by day
in her own quiet place and way.
'Around her, childish hearts were twined,
AH round some reverend saint enshrined,
And following hers the childish feet
Were led to ideals true and sweet,
binding all purity and good' in her divinest motherhood."To the sorrow-stricken husband and the motherless young children there is extended a full measure of sympathy and condolence from all who know them. Brief funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. P. E. Bartlett, of the Akron M. E. church. A large concourse of mourning friends assembled at the Chatsworth depot, from where her remains were forwarded to the old home, Barneveld, Wisconsin, for interment, the bereaved family accompanying.
