Harold J. 'Hess' Steinfadt

JEFFERSON – Harold James "Hess" Steinfadt, 65, of Jefferson, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at the Green County Medical - Center in Greene.

Harold James Steinfadt was born Sept. 17, 1936, in Le Mars, the son of Herman and Dora (Andreason) Steinfadt. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1956 and moved to Jefferson in 1958. On Oct. 31, 1959, he married Bonnie L. Clopton at Jackson, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1959 to February 1962.

Harold worked for Shriver Construction in Jeffersonand later for Quad State Construction for 25 years. He retired from Hoffman Construction of Muscatine. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making birdhouses. Harold also enjoyed refinishing different items and was content mowing his two acres of yard.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; two brothers, Donald and his wife, Virginia, of Cedar Rapids, and Marian and his wife, Diane, of Le Mars; four sisters, Betty Stinton and Gladys Kock and her husband, Clarence, all of Le Mars, Delores Day of Roswell, N.M., and Mavis Tonne and her husband, Rudy, of Fairmont, Minn.; his sister-in-law, Connie Rookstool of Hisperia, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joyce Moritz.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson with the Rev. Jim Mossman of Christ Lutheran Church in Jefferson, officiating. Burial was in Wright Cemetery in Greene County. Visitation was Friday at the Hastings Funeral Home, with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Pallbearers were Scott Steinfadt, James Steinfadt, Mike Stinton, Gene Stinton, Jerry Sherlock, Kevin Sherlock and LeRoy Sherlock. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
