Mrs. Hans (Hermine) Martfeld, 83, 315 Third Ave. SW, died Sunday (April 15, 1973) at Plymouth Manor Care Center after a long illness. She had lived at the center the past week. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. John's American Lutheran church, Le Mars, with Rev. Arnold Imbrock officiating. Burial will be in the Merrill Hillside cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home.
The former Talinae Hermine Redelfs, she was born Sept. 4, 1889, at Osfriesland, Germany, the daughter of the late Ommo Johnson and Antje Redelfs. She came to the United States at the age of eight and lived at rural Le Mars until retiring to Le Mars in 1934. She and Hans A. Martfeld were married March 9, 1909, in Le Mars. Mrs. Martfeld was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John's American Lutheran church.
Survivors are five daughters, Alma Mahlke and Mrs. Wilbur (Esther) Ahlrich, both of Le Mars, Mrs. John (Dorothy) Meier of Bakersfield, Calif., Mrs. Robert (Alice) Gee of Riverside, Calif., and Mrs. Emmett (Blanche) Baack of Redlands, Calif.; two sons, Elmer of Bakersfield, Calif., and George of Vienna, Calif. Also a brother, Eilert Redelfs of Sumas, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Fred Wilken and Mrs. Dietrick Wilken, both of Brunsville, and Mrs. Alfred Buehre of Le Mars, 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Feb. 13,1967.
