The funeral of J. F. Banks, which was held from the Westcott chapel in Sioux City, Monday afternoon,, was largely attended by his former neighbors from both Milnerville and Morningside, the chapel being filled with the many friends, mutely testifying to the respect in which the deceased was held. Mayor Short had charge of the services.
The pallbearers were from among his oldest neighbors of this locality T. B. Cassen, Jonas Fursee, N. R. Knapp, Dale Hunter, C. C. Pike and Will Weber. Interment was in Logan Park cemetery, where the child who preceded its father lies buried.

INTERNAL INJURIES PROVE FATAL
Automobile Driver Was Looking Backward and Did Not See Banks Until the Machine Struck Him.—

Joseph F. Banks, who has resided in Sioux township for many years, was run down by an automobile driven by a man who claimed Canton, S. D., as, his-home and who gave his name as James Dayher The accident occurred In the main road in front of the Banks’ home in Sioux township, August 19, 1919.
Mr. Banks owned a small threshing outfit and had just finished threshing for one of his neighbors and with his son, Homer, who was running the engine, About fifty yards from the road that extends from the main road to his home he stepped off the engine and hurried forward to open the gate so that the engine need not stop and was about fifty feet in front of the engine when the automobile struck him. The auto driver passed the threshing outfit and was looking back at the machine and did hot see Mr. Banks until the car was within a few feet of him. The blow doubled Mr. Banks back on the fender and he was carried a few feet when he fell to the ground and one front and one rear wheel passed over his shoulders.
He was taken to his home and a doctor from Akron was summoned, who at first did not think the injuries were very serious. The next morning he made another call and found that an operation was necessary and in an ambulance and an operation was performed on the morning of the twentieth. He rallied for a few hours but soon began to fail and died at 1 o’clock Saturday morning, August 23, 1919.
Mr. Banks was born in Allamakee County, Iowa, September 15, 1861, and lived there until 1887 when he came to Plymouth county, Iowa and soon after purchased a farm in Sioux township and with the exception of ten years spent on a farm at Morningside he has lived in Plymouth County.
On May 10, 1898, he was united in marriage to Miss Florence O. Ross at Le Mars, Iowa. To this union thirteen children were born, one preceding the father in death.
He is survived by his widow and twelve children who all live at home and by three brothers and one sister, namely; Robert A. Banks of Sioux Township; William H. Banks and Mrs. Mary A. Dow, of Belmont, Mont. and George B. Banks of Lavina, Mont.
Mr. Banks always took an active interest in public affairs and was a successful farmer, a kind husband and a loving father who will be greatly missed in the community.
