Alfred "Ty" Ryan

Alfred "Ty" Ryan, 74, of Akron, Iowa, died Saturday (July 18,1987) in a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Patrick's Catholic church in Akron. The Rev. Timothy Schott officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery, Gregory, S.D., under direction of Schroeder funeral home, Akron. Pallbearers were Charles Morehead, Scott Morehead, Terry Morehead, Mark Morehead, Kelly Manning, Ryan Manning and Regan Manning.

Mr. Ryan was born July 8, 1913, to Arthur and Matilda Ryan in Gregory, S.D. She died Feb. 20,1960. He moved to Elk Point, S.D., in 1960 and owned and operated the Elk Point Cleaners. He married Christine Morehead July 17, 1965 at Elk Point. They made their home in Akron where he also had a dry cleaning business. He was grounds keeper at the Akron golf club and drove an Akron school bus for several years before he retired in 1980. Mr. Ryan was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, Knights of Columbus, Akron Golf club, and Akron Lions club.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Dwayne (Angela) Smith of La Mesa, Calif., Mrs. James (Jacquelynn) Manning of Burbank, S.D., and Mrs. Felix (Stephanie) Krasovec of San Pedro, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Janice Morehead of Akron; two step-sons, Virgil "Archie" Morehead of Sioux City and Norman Morehead of Merrill; a sister, Leone McElroy of Gregory; two brothers, Jerry of Elk Point and Marvin of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Vera Schissons.
