Former Stage Manager Dies

Roy Butler Lived Here When A Youth

Roy W. ("Pal") Butler, 57, a resident of Sioux City the past thirty-six years, died at his home Tuesday morning after an illness of a year. Roy Butler was born in Sinto, Canada, August 27, 1885 and came with his parents the late Mr. and Mrs. William Butler to Le Mars, where he grew up and was educated. When in Le Mars he was employed by the management of the old Le Mars opera house and went to Sioux City to follow this line of work.

For many years he had been stage manager of the Capitol theater. At one time he served in a similar capacity for the old Peavey Grand theater. For years he had assisted in billing for circuses and other attractions in this territory. He also was associated with decorating activities for the Acme Sign company. He was a member of billposters' and stage hands' unions.

Mr. Butler was a member of Sioux City Consistory 5, Landmark lodge, A. F, & A, M,, and Abu-Bekr temple. In the latter he was active as a member of the wrecking crew.

Surviving are the widow, Florence, and two sons. Warren and Wallace, both with the nation's armed forces; three brothers, Frank of Sioux City, William of Madison, S. D., and George of Sacramento. Cal., and two sisters, Mrs. Harry Haight and Mrs. Elmer Burkeen, both of Sioux City.

He was a brother of the late Harley Butler, of this city, a well known business man and member of the city council for many years.

Funeral services will be hold at 10 a. m. in Anderson's chapel, Rev. Joseph Steele officiating and interment will be made in Graceland Park cemetery, Sioux City. Landmark lodge 103, will have charge of ritualistic services at the grave.
