Died

Held – On Thursday, Nov. 30, 1876, in Le Mars, Frankie, son of D. W. and Mary Held aged 12 yrs., 4 mo., 4 da.

The deceased was a bright, promising boy, obedient to his parents, and a great favorite with his playmates. Up to the period of the illness which carried him off he had been remarkably healthy, and little did his fond parents dream when he was attacked with what appeared trifling cold but a few weeks ago, that the fatal germ of death was implanted in their beloved child's heart. The cold developed into typhoid fever, which was succeeded by other complications that rapidly bore his young life away to the Fountain of all existence. During his sickness, which he bore with exemplary fortitude for one so young, he exhorted his sisters to look to Jesus, and seemed to anticipate his death with courageous resignation.

His departure leaves an aching void in a family where he was almost idolized. He was the only surviving son, three little brothers and one sister having preceded him to the unknown bourne beyond the grave. Six sisters still remain.

His funeral took place last Sunday, the sermon being preached by the Rev. A. H. Koener in the M. E. Church. The funeral cortege was one Of the largest that ever moved through the streets of Le Mars, and the sympathy for the bereaved parents is wide-extended and profound.
