Early Resident Of This County Died In Sioux City Monday

Mrs. June Alice Clifton died Monday in a hospital in Sioux City where she had lived since 1911. Born November 18, 1857, in Delaware county. New York, she came to Iowa in 1871 and located at Merrill where she lived for several years and taught in Plymouth county schools when she was 17 years old. The family passed through Chicago on their way west one night when the big fire that wiped out much of that city was burning.

She was married to the late Mr. (George) Duncan at the age of 20 and she was married to Joseph Clifton 63 years ago. Her forefathers fought in the revolutionary and civil wars.

Survivors besides a son, Guy, Sioux City, include two daughters, Mrs. Lottie Dunnicliff, Friant, Calif., and Mrs. Myrtle Clifton, Los Angeles, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday in Sioux City. Rev. Victor Schuldt of Wesley Methodist church officiating and interment was in a Le Mars cemetery.
