John Carl Conrad Vanderham was born December 10, 1838, at Bokhorn, Oldenburg, Germany. In 1866 he was united in marriage with Miss Wilheimine Kruger. The union was blessed with seven children, five sons and two daughters.
On May 21, 1868, he came to America, locating near Monticello, Iowa. In 1891 he returned to Germany remaining there fifteen years, and then came back to America, again locating near Monticello, Iowa.

There he remained about a year and then went to Colby, Kansas, and resided with his daughter, Mrs. Mollhoff, for a year. He and his family then came to Plymouth County, Iowa, and have remained here ever since.
His wife and one daughter, Mrs. Mollhoff, preceded him into eternity.
In October, 1922, he was taken seriously ill. On December 15, 1923, he was taken sick again, but was able to be about after a little while, and on January 14 suffered his final illness, dying January 28, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 18 days.
He is survived by five sons and one daughter, Theodore and John, of Akron vicinity; Chas. and Henry, of Platte, S. D., David of North Dakota, and Mrs. Annie Degen, northeast of Akron; also twenty-six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
They have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. A. Meske in the Lutheran church at Chatsworth, Iowa, last Thursday afternoon. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
