Death Claims Carl Ahrendt Early Settler In Grant Township

Carl Ahrendt, 78, retired farmer living at 301 Eighth street SW,, died Saturday, September 2, at the Lutheran hospital in Sioux City, four days after undergoing an operation for an internal malady.

Carl Ahrendt was a native of Germany and was born in Mecklenburg, October 11, 1865, and came with his parents to the United States when a boy of twelve. The family were early settlers in Grant township.

He was married to Elizabeth Westhoff, April 17, 1894, and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in LeMars last April. Mr. and Mrs. Ahrendt farmed successfully for many years in Grant township before retiring a few years ago to make their home in LeMars where he purchased a small acreage, formerly known as the Coppock place. Mr. Ahrendt was a life long member of the Lutheran church, being baptized into the church when a boy in Germany.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Elizabeth, five daughters, Mrs. John Binneboese of Hinton, Mrs. Frank Zieger of St. Lawrence, S. D.; Mrs. Harm D. Kruse of Washington township, Mrs. Fred Onken of LeMars, Miss Ida Ahrendt, living at home and one son. Sergeant Carl Ahrendt in the army, stationed in England; one sister, Mrs. Mary Muecke of Hinton, and ten grandchildren.

The funeral will be held this Tuesday afternoon, September 5, at 1:30 from the residence and services will be held at 2 o'clock in Christ Lutheran church, Grant township, Rev. F. O. Bunge officiating.

The Mauer funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
